Data Transfer Standard

The Data Transfer Standard (DTS) is a mechanism for transferring land assembly data between organisations and systems. It is independent of any jurisdiction, legislative framework, land acquisition procedure, organisation or project. It achieves this by providing a universal land assembly language which has the flexibility to accommodate many local dialects.

The purpose of the DTS is to save time, money and frustration - our DTS Infographic illustrates how.

What does the DTS do for Clients?

Organisations that need to receive digital data need to specify their requirements. The DTS provides a blueprint for doing precisely that. With the Client’s requirements specified in accordance with the DTS, the supplier can export the data into a data transfer file (DTF) and use a standard validation tool to check that the DTF meets the Client’s requirements. This mechanism once implemented ensures the Client receives the data it has specified, correctly, first time and every time. It also avoids the need for organisations receiving and supplying land assembly data to write their own validation tools.

What does the DTS do for Suppliers?

A supplier can use the DTS to create its own specification of land assembly data and then export data to a DTF that complies with its own specification. This DTF can then be converted to the Client specification using a standard configurable conversion tool. This means that a supplier only needs to develop a single export mechanism rather than one for every client. Also, as the conversion process moves the data through a neutral format, the supplier can make use a set of standard reporting tools for producing, for example, Books of Reference, Notices and Plans.

What role can LAS play?

LAS will provide the DTS on request – free of charge. We also provide a software tool to enable users to build their own specification of land assembly data based on the DTS – no charge is made for this either.

In addition, LAS can provide:

  • A tool which will validate a DTF against its specification;

  • A configurable conversion tool which will transform any data specification based on the DTS to any other specification based on the DTS;

  • Tools to produce reports from a DTF which has been converted to neutral format;

  • Services to support implementation.
